Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. The kids are just about out of school and the weather is mild, so the coming three-day weekend practically demands that we enjoy a little leisure time with friends and family. To help your plans along, we thought we’d share a few of our ideas for a summertime get-together.

Pool party
What goes with a summer kickoff better than a party around the pool? A bright, sunshiny day followed by a mild evening outdoors with an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet makes for the quintessential summer event. Make sure to have plenty of inflatable rafts and pool toys available for the kids. For the adults, stage your own beer garden and stock it with a variety of fine specialty brews. You may also want to stage a dessert section with a variety of treats, especially our oven-fresh Chippies™ and Peanut Butter Oatmeal cookies. Serve them along with ice cream and everyone can build their own ice cream sandwich — here are some of our favorite recipes.

Ranch fiesta/Lake House Soiree
Do you live outside of the suburbs and measure your yard in acres rather than square feet? Then you’re all set up for a rustic fiesta. Or maybe your backyard is the shoreline itself—you’re primed to host a waterfront excursion. Either way, the main attraction is the fare, so treat your guests some delicious food that’s easy to serve up, like fajitas or tacos. Turn up the music and light up a campfire once evening falls, and your guests will mingle well into the night. Substitute our Classic Cookie Brittle Collection for graham crackers to make gourmet s’mores. No fire? No problem. Treat guests to our deluxe chocolate brownies. They’re an over-the-top chocolate dessert treat that will keep your guests raving.

All American Picnic
Not feeling up to hosting an event? No worries. Head out with the family or join up with some friends for a picnic at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Preserve. This year is the center’s 50th anniversary, and they’re offering an opportunity for city dwellers to get outside, stretch their legs and see the native landscape and Texas wildlife only minutes away from Forth Worth’s downtown. Pack a bag or basket full of sandwich fixings and start out at the center’s designated picnic areas. For an easy-to-carry indulgence that ties in with Memorial Day, pick up an All American Cookie Parade. It’s got all your favorite cookies in one collection: Chippies™, Cherry Almond Sugar Gems and Cinnamon Cookie Brittle. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Whatever you do this Memorial Day weekend, celebrate your American heritage, remember those who’ve fought to ensure our freedom and get ready to make this summer one to remember with Mother Rucker’s Sweets.
